100 Best Small Companies

It was a night to remember when Taylor Made was named as the 8th ‘best small company to work for’ in the Sunday Times ‘100 Best Small Companies to Work For’ list  at a glittering awards ceremony in London.

At the event, hosted by BBC newsreader Fiona Bruce, Taylor Made Managing Director Nigel Taylor and Financial Director Alison Taylor, accepted their award from Fiona and John Waples, Business Editor of the Sunday Times, on behalf of all of their 80 staff.  A copy of the list of the top 100 companies to work for has been published in the Sunday Times on 2nd March.

This recent success completes an outstanding year for Taylor Made which has achieved excellent financial results. Turnover has risen to £6m, a 25% increase on the previous year with a pre-tax profit of £320k, making 2007 the firm’s most successful 12 months to date. In the month of February 2008 alone, Taylor Made has won £1m of business and so 2008 looks to be developing into an even stronger year for Nigel Taylor and his team.

When the initial results of the annual ‘Best Companies to work for’ survey were made public two weeks ago, TMCS attained the highest accolade of three stars denoting ‘extraordinary performance’. Only 48 other companies have attained three stars this year out of a total of 558 companies taking part and Taylor Made is one of only a very few companies to have attained this top rating at the first time of entering. With this recent accreditation, Taylor Made joins companies including KPMG, O2, Ernst and Young and the Britannia Building Society as a three star accredited organisation.

As a business focused on delivering superb service consistently, the workforce at Taylor Made is the organisation’s most valuable asset and is the factor to which Taylor Made Managing Director, Nigel Taylor, attributes the organisation’s recent success: “The ‘Best Companies’ award is clearly a reflection on our workforce and the positive ‘can-do’ attitude that everyone at Taylor Made possesses. It is our strong financial performance that has provided the foundation for successes such as the ‘Best Companies’ award and so I would like to thank all of my colleagues for their hard work over this past twelve months that has helped us to achieve so much.”

Speaking at the ‘Best Small Companies’ event, John Waples, Business Editor of the Sunday Times said: “There is no doom and gloom in this room, unlike in the general business arena out there. Everyone I have spoken to here is doing well and is positive.

‘The Sunday Times Top 100 Small Companies to Work for’ is the definitive list of companies that don’t allow individuals to be mere cogs in a wheel. Getting onto the list is no easy win. There are no ‘smoke and mirrors’ and there is nowhere to hide. You have taken a gamble and allowed the Sunday Times open access to your people. These are the people who are on the receiving end of your policies and you have every right to be proud, because they have told us loud and clear that you are getting it right.”
